Steps to Become Your Dream

Transitioning from what you are to what you dream about is no easy feat but definitely achievable, and many women are living their dreams now having taken the decision to start working and walking towards their goal.

I will take you through the steps to becoming your dream below.

Step 1-

Always begin with the end in mind, by asking questions such as what do I want? who do I want to be? What does the future I want look like? Your dream/goal must be specific and achievable. A good example to use is I want to lose 5kg in body weight instead of “I want to be more fit”. I want to be more fit is too general and ambiguous as you will not be able to measure what “more fit” is or know when you have achieved it. The same is true for your career, business goal(s); they must be clear and specific to make it achievable. It is not enough to say I want to be financially free- you must define what “financially free” means for you. Most crucially, you must identify with your goal and have the “why” behind it. Why do you want it? This will motivate you to keep going till your become your dream

Step 2-

Once a clear picture of where you want to be is formed and established- this is known as your goal! You then begin to take steps towards this. Again, series of questions must be asked prior to taking these steps and making assessments of your current position (where you are now) in relation to where you want to go.  Some questions to ask yourself are, where am I now? what resources (human, financial, skills e.t.c) are needed to move me nearer or to reach my goal? How will I know when I have reached my goal- what are the parameters I must have in place and which I must attain? What obstacles are stopping me and how do I overcome them?

Step 3

This is where you start to put actions into each of those parameters mentioned above. Taking one step after another and ticking them off on completion. Tackling and navigating through each obstacle that presents and turning them to building blocks instead of stumbling blocks.

This can be done by ensuring your perspective of those “obstacles” are positive; that means you see them as what they are, obstacles that you can navigate or negotiate through rather than as a fixed stumbling block. This is a matter of perspective, my favorite story which has helped to shape my perspective is a bible story of when Caleb and some men went to spy on an enemy camp in order to plan an attack strategy against it. However, the men stated the following, “…..and there have we seen giants the sons of Anak are of the giants and we were in our sight as grasshoppers, and so we were also in their sight.”  Numbers 13: 33

Notice that they only described their perception of themselves and this crippled them as they believed they could not succeed. What is your perception of yourself when you face “obstacles” on your journey to your goal? It is important to realise that everything you need you have inside if you to navigate to the vision you have been given and that you can accomplish.

So, I encourage you to continue taking those steps towards your dreams and keep knocking those obstacles over and moving them out of your way, one at a time.

Step 4-

This is where you repeat steps 2 and 3 in the life time of your journey till you finally become the dream you had.
